Guys. I’ve come up with an idea.

So (in)famous Ringling Brothers Circus is coming to perform in Salt Lake City, a city very close to me. It is being advertised EVERYWHERE, from the radio, to TV commercials, and now even the local news is offering to give away tickets. And -knowing full well of the physical and psychological abuse that Ringling Bros. inflicts on its animals - it’s making me furious.

My local news station is giving out tickets to the winner of an essay contest submitted to them. The subject is a person who you admire in your community. 

But what if I twisted this topic a bit to explain why Ringling Bros. should not be glamorized and promoted, and to bring to light the condition their animals are in?

Yes, I would still include an inspirational person. There are many people who do REAL good out in the world - and a circus company is simply not one of them. The judge of the essays is from that news station, not someone who represents Ringling Brothers. I’m hoping that they’ll actually read through my essay and consider it.

Do you guys think this is a good idea? Do you think this will even make a difference?
